Cork will play host to as many as 40,000 music revellers who will converge on the city for the 2016 Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.

Always a highly anticipated event  in the Irish festival calendar, the Jazz Festival kicks off on Friday, 28th October and continue throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Over 60 venues across the city are set to showcase a whole host of unique jazzy sounds and voices from across the globe with entry to the majority of events free to music-lovers.

The festival will see a sparkling line-up of musicians treat revellers to an electric atmosphere of sleek jazz melodies. Some of the most notable acts include Grammy-winning producer and pianist; Robert Glasper, an acoustic session with Bell XI, the critically acclaimed US pianist Justin Kauflin. Several homegrown favourites such as The Riptide Movement, Cookie and the Vaudevilles, Groove CollectiveOne Horse Pony will also be present.

Expanding on the main festival schedule, The Fringe offers a series of free events for locals and visitors to experience and enjoy. A ‘Visions of Jazz’ photographic exhibition will be showcased from the end of October at Cork Airport with stunning snaps from throughout the festival’s 38 year history. Beat on the Street will see some of Europe’s best marching bands take to Cork City centre over the weekend, providing fun for all the family.

The Cork School of Music and Academy of Pop will be hosting a Jazz Camp featuring a special series of workshops and master-classes for those seeking to delve a little deeper into jazz culture. Admission to these chilled sessions is free and open to everyone.

Since its foundation in 1978, the festival is Ireland’s premier jazz event, attracting a legion of followers and growing from strength to strength each year, with Guinness collaborating to become the weekend’s official sponsor during the 1980s.
