25th Valentine’s Ball 2015Fota Island Resort will once again play host to the Breakthrough Cancer Research Valentine’s Ball on Saturday, 7th February. This will be the 25th year that the blacktie fundraising event will be staged at one of the most iconic luxury hotels in Cork, and is once again organised by Breakthrough Cancer Research with all proceeds going to the Cork Cancer Research Centre.

The Valentine’s Ball has always proved to be a popular event and it is not uncommon for many to label it as one of ‘go to fundraising events’ of the 2015 Cork social calendar. The fundraiser, which  returns to one of Ireland’s most popular hotels near Cork, has generally proved to be extremely popular with locals and those from further afield with tickets selling out soon after release. Following the success of the recent Irish Open at the Fota Island’s Cork golf club, all eyes will be on this special event on the 7th February.

Tickets for the event will cost €130 per person which includes a champagne reception, a gourmet dining 4 course meal, goody bags, a fantastic range of prizes plus some top class entertainment from guest comedian, author and broadcaster, Colm O’Regan of Irish Mammies fame. Musical entertainment on the night will be provided by ‘Shine’ who are an exciting five-piece live band specialising in a eclectic mix of musical genres ranging from waltz, some swing, jive, country, rock ‘n’ roll, pop, rock, funk and even traditional Irish music.

Director of Fundraising at Breakthrough Cancer Research, Orla Dolan, noted that:

“Our Valentine’s Ball offers the perfect way to spend a romantic evening with your someone special…or maybe an opportunity to meet someone new…whilst also raising much-needed funds to develop new treatments for the most difficult to treat cancers, those which currently do not respond to conventional therapies.”

Orla added: “Funds raised at the annual Valentine’s Ball, which raised over €50,000 last year, will further support focused research programmes, directly fund scientists and purchase laboratory consumables.  Supporters of our Valentine’s Ball can be confident that all cancer patients throughout Ireland will have the opportunity to access the most up to date and effective treatment for their disease.  So why not whisk your loved one away and help us make a breakthrough.”
