Players and club officials from the English premiership football club West Ham United will be staying and training at the Fota Island Resort Hotel Cork ahead of their pre-season friendly match with Cork City FC on Sunday 7th July.
The club which finished 10th in the premier league last season thanks to the efforts and determinations of its elite players such as Kevin Nolan, Jussi Jääskeläinen, Mark Noble, Matt Jarvis and Andy Carroll, West Ham United will be benefitting from Fota Island Resort’s first class training facilities in Cork whilst they are here.
The club which was founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks FC before it was reformed in 1900 as West Ham United. The club that plays their home games at the Boleyn Ground in Upton Park, Newham, London, will in 2016, relocate to a new home – the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Ground in Stratford, which is the 4th biggest stadium in England.
West Ham’s first clash of the 2013/2014 premiership next season will be at home against Cardiff City on Saturday 17th August and during pre season training the club will be playing a few friendly matches, one of which is against Cork City in Turners Cross at 6pm on Sunday 7th July. One West Ham player sure to be looking forward to the pre-season fixture and to returning to Cork is Ireland international Joey O’Brien, who played at Turners Cross before when he represented Ireland Under 19s in a friendly against England at the Cork City ground back in September 2004.
