Fota Island Resort were delighted to have the opportunity to welcome the now globally renowned Cork fishmonger Pat O’Connell and his wife to before his attendance at Buckingham Palace for a reception hosted by Britain’s Queen Elizabeth. Our highly talented Executive Chef, Craig Coady, greeted Pat and his wife as they enjoyed a sport of fine dining at one of the leading hotel restaurants in Cork, Fota Restaurant.
Pat used the trip to our Cork Hotel to prepare for his trip to Buckingham where The Queen of England welcomed over 300 guests representing the Irish community in Britain. Guests to the Palace on the night ranged from Irish music stars to politicians and celebrities to community champions.
The guests were not restricted exclusively to those Irish residing in Britain and an invitation was extended to Cork fishmonger, Pat O’Connell, who had previously met the Queen during her visit to the English Market in Cork as part of her historic state visit to Ireland in 2009. A photograph of both individuals laughing together became an instant hit and was published in the media around the world reflecting the good nature of the visit.
