Immerse yourself in rich Irish history and culture during National Heritage Week between 22nd & 30th August at various event venues in Cork. The week long celebrations are coordinated by The Heritage Council with the aim of building awareness and education about Ireland’s heritage in the hope of encouraging conservation and preservation in the generations to come.
The week long celebrations has become an annual event with many local and national community organisations taking part to organise events throughout the country. Many of the events that take place during the week are free and the programme highlights the abundance of great work that is carried out in all communities in Ireland to preserve and promote the country’s natural, built and cultural heritage.
There are over 162 scheduled events scheduled to take place in 58 different locations throughout the County Cork allowing visitors to explore historic houses and castles, take guided tours and walks of museums and archives and enjoy spectacular seasonal festivals and events. Throughout the week, the Heritage Unit of Cork County Council has also organised a number of events . These include a talk on on the Secrets of Drombeg as well as a talk on the upcoming publication Heritage Churches of County Cork (a follow on to the highly successful Heritage Bridges and Heritage Houses of County Cork), supported by the Irish Heritage Council.
