Fota Island Resort will be hosting its very first Challenge Series Sprint Duathlon on the 1st of March 2014 sponsored by Keanes Jewellers and Optimum Nutrition. The demanding  Fota Island Challenge Series Sprint Duathlon will comprise of a three-part race through the wooded grounds of Fota Island Resort and the surrounding Cobh area.

The race has been sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland and will consist of a 5km run around the grounds of Fota Island Resort including our renowned Cork Golf Club followed by a 22km cycle, taking competitors out towards the town of Cobh and around the Great Island, followed by the third and final element, a second 5km run, which will take competitors back along the reverse route of the initial phase.  

Those interested have until 5pm on the 27th February to enter the event through the Triathlon Ireland website by clicking here. The Duathlon will then taken place on the 1st March and will get underway at 10.30 a.m. sharp. It is also important to note that the dates for registration in the Recreational Building are on the 28th February between 5 p.m. & 7 p.m. or on 1st March between 7.30 a.m. & 9.45 a.m., at Fota Island Resort hotel near Cobh. As the event has been sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland and a race license has been required the duathlon fee per participant is €39.

Prizes will be awarded for numerous race categories including best overall female and male to 16 – 19 years, 20 – 34 years, 35 – 49 years and 50+ in both sexes. The prize giving ceremony will take place on the training pitch following the conclusion of the race at approximately 2 p.m. Prizes have been generously sponsored by a variety of organisations and companies, including Keanes Jewellers.

With food available for participants and spectators after the race, plus Optimum Nutrition energy drink pre race and recovery drink post race for participants, water and aid stations, showers and plenty of free parking, this will be an efficient and well-run event, and hopefully the first of many Fota Island Challenge Series Events on Fota.
