Wedding events are always a busy hive of activity and excitement. It is easy to forget those all-important questions that have been nagging since your engagement.

Ahead of the upcoming Wedding Showcase at Fota Island Resort on Sunday 9th of October 2016, here’s an easy and essential list of questions to bring along with you. The stunning 5 star hotel in Cork will open its doors from 12-4pm to help plan your dream day.

Capacity & Availability

The most obvious question – and the most important! You will probably have a rough idea of how many guests will be attending your ceremony and evening meal. First things first, check if your potential venue can cater to your numbers. Will everyone be seated in a spacious ballroom together, or will there be interlinking rooms for different tables? It’s super important to envision how your seating plan could look on the day and if the suite can accommodate a larger party.

Secondly, enquire about your preferred date. Be mindful that weekends, Christmas and summer are peak periods and dates will be snapped up fast. If your date is sentimental to you both and it is not available, this could be detrimental to your choice of venue.

Is There a One Wedding Per Day Policy?

If the hotel boasts a number of suites in the property, always ask if there is a one wedding per day policy in your contract. This is a huge deciding factor for many brides-to-be, and naturally that is completely understandable. It is the most special day of your life and you deserve undivided attention.

Is There Adequate Disabled Access?

If you have a relation with a disability or elderly grandparents with mobility issues, it is worth noting the bathroom and parking facilities while attending the wedding event. Ask at reception if there are wheelchair access bedrooms on the ground floor, ramps at the entrance and an adequate elevator.

Are There Restrictions On Food & Décor?

If you are a hands-on DIY bride, this will be one of your top priorities. Some wedding venues don’t allow food trucks at your arrival reception or outside caterers to supply nibbles for the evening buffet due to health and safety standards. Similarly, you may want to add your own touches to the venue such as homemade décor, budget-friendly candles, your own floral arrangements or a DIY photo backdrop. It’s best to iron these issues out right from the get-go to avoid disappointment later down the line.

What Are The Terms & Conditions?

It is important to have an estimated guideline of your payment options and the terms & conditions of your contract. This will help you budget and make allowances for any installment plans.

Local Suppliers

If you aren’t familiar with local suppliers, a wedding showcase is a great opportunity to sample what is on offer in the area. The finest wedding vendors from photographers, make-up artists, musicians, wedding cakes and stationery will be in attendance at Fota Island Resort on the day.

Here is a selection of suppliers we recommend in no particular order or preference:
