There was some positive news for Cork recently when it was announced that Cork Airport has been chosen as host to a major international aviation conference next year. The 2017 ACI Europe Regional Airports Forum will be coming to Ireland for the first time with conferences being held at the 5 Star Fota Island Resort between the 15th & 17th May next year.

The exciting news was revealed by the Cork Convention Bureau (CCB) and Fáilte Ireland following a successful bidding process in conjunction with Cork Airport. It is considered that the hosting the ACI Europe Regional Airports Forum will deliver an immediate economic boost to the Cork and surrounding region. Further long term benefits could come in the form of new routes secured into Cork Airport from a host of new destinations which would be a significant boost to local tourism as well as Cork hotels, B&B’s and hostels.

The Regional Airports Forum provides a platform for regional airports such as Cork to exchange knowledge, share best practice and discuss issues of common interest. The membership of the ACI covers 500 airports in 45 countries across Europe with almost 200 delegates expected to arrive at the Cork conference venue.

The principal conference will be hosted at the five-star resort in Ireland, while other elements of the programme include the Welcome Reception which will take place at the popular local attraction at the Midleton Distillery.
