National Heritage Week takes place throughout the entire country each year and this year it looks set to be bigger and better than years gone by with a record total of 1700 events, most of which are free, taking place between 17th – 25th August.

The main aim of National Heritage Week is to build awareness and education about Irish heritage, and by doing so helping to encourage its conservation and preservation.

A unique opportunity for local families and families staying in our Cork Hotel or within our holiday homes in Cork to get involved and learn more about Ireland’s heritage, there are many locations in and around Cork involved in Heritage Week, such as Triskel Christchurch Arts Centre, Crawford Art Gallery, Local Libraries, Cork Vision Centre, CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory and the Lewis Glucksman Gallery at UCC.

These locations and venues will be offering something for everyone as they bring heritage to life and allow all the family to get excited about Irish history, nature, culture and community.

Coinciding with Heritage week and just 35 minutes from our hotel near Cork is Youghal’s Medieval Festival. A free event taking place on Sunday 18th August within the surrounds of St Mary’s College Gardens, this festival now in its 7th year is popular with families of all ages. With many events organised such as food fair, arts and crafts, face painting, as well as displays and exhibitions, perhaps the most exciting feature is the highly anticipated battle re-enactments!

Be sure to discover something new this Heritage week as you get involved in one the many family friendly events that has been arranged to help preserve, promote and protect Irish heritage.
